“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”
Charles R. Swindoll
The key to managing your life, whatever the circumstances, if often overlooked because it is so simple:
“It is NOT WHAT happens BUT HOW you respond.”
Just take a moment to notice how you feel reading that comment.
Read it again if you have to because you need to become aware of any resistance you may feel to accepting the life-changing wisdom contained within that short statement.
So, how did you feel? Amused, angry, disbelieving, allowing, denying, empowered, inspired or nothing.
What was going through your mind?
Maybe nothing or were you thinking something along the lines of “it’s ok to say that but they don’t know what I’m going through” or “Easier said than done.” It can be a difficult one to accept sometimes. For example, if you a person who has a disability of any kind, are facing a life-threatening illness, have just lost a loved one, or are facing any other type of difficult situation. Whatever you were thinking or feeling you are right: but does the way you think and feel work for you?
However, whatever the circumstances, and whatever you feel or think about that comment the reality of that statement remains a fact. The outcome of any situation depends on how you deal with it.
You may be thinking that there are circumstances that you have no control over and you would be right. But even then you do have control over how you react to whatever is happening. You always have a choice.
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.
It’s Not What Happens But How you deal with the “challenges” you come across during your current life experience it is how you deal with them.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Life is about the path we walk to the destination not the destination itself and, in actuality, the way we choose will define the goal. Yes, we may typically make goals and set targets, which is fine, but it is still how we walk our path that ultimately decides the outcome. We will always meet obstacles on our journey, some of them small, some massive but, you must remember that your circumstances do not define you they reveal you. Ultimately, they reveal the level you are at Spiritually.
Some of these obstacle you can deal with easily, some are more difficult and some so deeply embedded you cannot seem to overcome them whatever you try. It is the last two categories where you may need help to refocus your thinking and deal with whatever limiting beliefs are stopping you.
Einstein once said you cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it – so you need to change your mind. Somtimes, because of the way our brains are neurologically “wired” this can be difficult and you may need a helping hand – that is where I come in.
